The Energy Savings Trust website now has a database where you can search for grant organisations who offer financial assistance for renewable energy or energy efficiency projects in your home or local community.

The Carbon Reductions Emissions Target (CERT) came into force in the Spring of April 2008, and requires energy suppliers to take active measures to reduce the CO2 emissions from UK homes. CERT effectively results in energy companies providing grants and financial assistance towards energy efficiency measures and renewable energy for your home.

The Scottish government provides grants through the Community and Householder Renewables Initiative (SCHRI) to Scottish residents. These programmes called “Warm Deal, Warm Front, Warm Homes and HEES” which run in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales, aim to provide grants for energy efficiency measures such as insulation to those suffering from fuel poverty and the vulnerable such as the elderly.

The Scottish Central Heating Programme provides a package of measures including central heating to those over 60 who have no central heating.

Other funds such as the Low Carbon Buildings Programme offer grants for the installation of micro-generation renewable energy for public sector buildings.
