domestic wind turbine

Do you live in the UK and want to find out how much you could save on your electricity bill by installing a wind turbine?

The Carbon Trust has just launched a new Wind Yield Estimation Tool to help people thinking about installing their own wind turbine. The tool allows you to work out how much power a home wind turbine could generate, together with the cost and carbon savings.

This is a very useful tool given recent negative publicity about small wind turbines located in unproductive locations.

The tool has been designed to ensure that small-scale turbines are installed in locations where they will deliver the most carbon and cost savings. Before you start you will need your postcode (or if you want a more accurate assessment – your grid reference). In order to estimate the energy produced by your chosen wind turbine, data describing the turbine’s power curve need to be entered. This data can be obtained from the turbine manufacturer or installer.

Dr Mark Williamson, Director of Innovations at the Carbon Trust said “In the right location, small-scale wind turbines can provide both cost and carbon savings, but there has been some confusion around the true performance of small wind turbines. This online tool should help to clear that up“.

The Carbon Trust also offer energy efficiency advice and unsecured and interest free Energy -Efficiency loans for business’s to install energy saving equipment. These loans can help you lower your energy bills and cut carbon emissions. The loans can be repaid over a period of up to four years.
