Greenpeace has released under-cover videos of Tory politicians revealing their plot to prevent further wind energy in England.
The series of vidoes showing a Greenpeace activist posing as an anti-wind campaigner talking with MP Chris Heaton Harris, Lord Howell and former Tory minister Peter Lilley reveal a plan to try and de-rail climate change commitments and prevent further wind energy, favouring instead a ‘dash for gas’.
In the interviews we hear that Lord Howell’s son in law – Chancellor Osbourn ‘does not need to be persuaded‘ (on the anti-wind energy argument), that the Climate Change Act “could be amended to make commitments advisory rather than legally binding” but that the Prime Minister David Cameron “does not understand the issues“.
Lilley was one of the 5 ministers who voted against the Climate Change Act in 2008 but has recently been appointed to the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee. He is also vice-chairman and senior independent non-executive director of Tethys Petroleum Ltd, an oil and gas company with operations in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Lilley said in the interview that Osbourn has helped put key anti – wind ministers in important places including putting anti- wind energy minister John Hayes into the Department of Climate Change and Energy where he is apparently ‘hated’ and Owen Patterson to Environment Minister.
Heaton Harris boasts of organising secret meetings with John Hayes and anti -wind campaigner James Delingbole. Heaton Harris is also heard boasting of how he offered support to proposed independent candidate Delingpole in preparation of the Corby byelection despite Heaton – Harris being responsible for the Conservative bid.
The videos will be an embarassment to the Government which comitted to being the “Greenest Government Ever”. If climate change and energy policy is diverted with help from this right wing group of politicians it will be a black energy future for the UK.
According to The Guardian today, Lib Dem Energy Minster – Ed Davey office said the Tories’ behaviour highlighted in the latest Greenpeace recordings made the Lib Dems even more determined to defend the Climate Change Act.
