A wind turbine at Europe’s biggest wind farm lost a blade last Friday according to wind farm operator Scottish Power Renewables.
All of the 140 turbines at the Whitelee wind farm were switched off further to the incident whilst engineers investigated possible causes.
This is the second UK wind turbine to suffer serious blade damage in the last 2 years, with an Enercon turbine in Lincolnshire losing a blade in January 2009.
The Whitelee wind farm near Glasgow, Scotland comprises Siemens 2.3 Megawatt turbines. It supplies enough electricity to provide for the needs of 250,000 homes each year.
